Increased usage of Punjab’s Kisan Card Facility
Punjab State, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has recently decided to register more Kisan cards, keeping in view the demands of the farmers. Initially planned for 5 lakh farmers, Kisan Card has extended its capacity to 7.5 lakh due to the tremendous response for which farmers can use these facilities for agricultural development. This came during a press conference where Cm. Maryam Nawaz said that the Kisan Card helps farmers all over the province.
Support from the Government for Farmers’ Exigencies
In the Kisan Card scheme, registered farmers get a loan of Rs 1.5 lakh without any interest, which for this reason is helpful for the poor farmers. These funds are restricted to the procurement of requisites for agricultural undertakings like seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and other related items from those who are appointed as dealers. This, in my opinion, is one of the possible benefits: the ability to put a certain amount of funds for high-quality and necessary inputs without worrying about interest on the debt.
Simplified registration with an intention of making it easier for the farmers involved.
Like other provinces in Pakistan, the Punjab government has kept the structure of registration as simple as possible. For the Kisan Card, farmers hardly have to do anything other than sending their national ID card number to 8070.

After this, the government compiles information on the kind of land they possess with reference to the ID card, and the Kisan Card is then transported to the farmer’s doorstep. This setup removes the time-consuming methods where farmers spend hours or even days forming long lines or performing other bureaucratic issues just to register for the program; the farmers can easily register and get access to other services provided in the program.
The Effectiveness of the Kisan Card Program to Change the Farmers’ Life.
The Kisan Card effort is an important move towards the fulfillment of the goals to help Punjab’s agriculture by strengthening the financial and operational aspects of farmers. The government should encourage the use of loans through registered dealers because this will provide the farmers with quality products to improve their yields. The interest rate on this loan is zero because it seeks to ease the burden on farmers to enable them to buy other important inputs in agriculture that would improve productivity.
Hence, this enlarged Kisan Card program can give an increased number of farmers government support needed to make their lives better in Punjab province for the agricultural business. The response was more than positive, and I think it is the most important evidence of the need for such a program in Punjab’s rural areas.
